Obituary

Obituary for James Leon Sauls, Jr.

James Leon Sauls, Jr., 47, of Irmo, died Sunday, September 6, 2020. Born January 18, 1973 in Nuernburg, Germany, he was a son of the late James Sauls, Sr. and Barabara Stanfield Sauls. Survivors include his sister, Eva Andrews (Scott); and nieces, Sydney Andrews and Emily Andrews of Rock Hill, SC; and uncle, Bruce Stanfield (Jackie) of Cummings, GA.

James, known as “Jim”, by all of his friends, loved to serve his country and his entire career proved his love for his country and his state. A member of the Army National Guard, Jim served with the Military Police, before becoming a Richland County Corrections Officer and a Policeman for the Town of Irmo. After leaving the police department, he worked for Costner and ABC Legal. Jim was fiercely loyal to his family, friends, and country. He was a people person, very outgoing, which meant, he never met a stranger.

Growing up in Columbia, Jim attended Capital City Baptist Church. He was a graduate of Spring Valley High School and many friendships from high school continued to present day. He had a huge heart and gave everyone the benefit of the doubt. If you were his friend, you had a friend to the end.

Jim loved to travel and plan trips that were best seen by riding his motorcycle. He enjoyed watching a good Sci-fi Movie, along with laughing and sharing his mischievous side when he was with his nieces. He thoroughly loved giving them a hard time. Jim had a gruff and rough looking exterior but he had a pure and gentle heart.

The graveside service will be held 2 o’clock, Tuesday, September 15, 2020, at Greenhaven Memorial Gardens, 11020 Two Notch Rd., Elgin, SC with Pastor Jay Rebsamen of West End Baptist Church in Rock Hill, SC officiating. The family will greet friends following the service. Everyone is invited to attend but will be asked to abide by the state’s recommendations of wearing masks and social distancing to provide a safe environment for all. A livestream will be available by visiting his tribute wall at ShivesFuneralHome.com. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Tunnel to Towers Foundation, 2361 Hylan Blvd., Staten Island, NY 10306.
