Columbia, South Carolina - 1SG Noah Lee Love, affectionately known as "Papa Love", was born December 23, 1933 in Montgomery, AL to the late Riley and Johnnie Mae Lewis Love and departed this life on Friday, January 29, 2021.
Noah was raised in Hope Hull, AL, where he received his grade school education at McLain Jr. High, and graduated from G.W. Carver High School in Montgomery, AL.
Noah entered the U.S. Army on January 19, 1956 as a Military Policeman. During this time, he served tours of duty in Vietnam, Germany, Korea, Okinawa, and numerous stateside assignments. His highest award was the Meritorious Service Medal (3d OLC). He retired after faithfully serving his country for 30 years in April 1986. While on terminal leave, Noah began working at the Dorn VA Medical Center. He was employed as a VA Police Officer and served there for 11 years until his retirement in July 1996.
Noah met and married Mattie P. Perdue Love on August 22, 1960 in Montgomery, AL. Alandra R. Love and Wendell K. Love are the children of this blessed union of 47 years.
Noah loved to travel. He was a member of numerous organizations, some of which are: VFW, NCOA, DAV, Vietnam Veterans Association, Retired Disabled Police of America, Blind Veterans of America, American Legion (lifetime member of all aforementioned), AARP, and various Military Police Battalion Associates, to include the Retired Military Police Association. Noah also served on the Daniel Circle Usher Board and Protestant Men of the Chapel.
Noah began his journey with the Lord at a very early age. He joined Mountain Hill MB Church in Montgomery, AL. The impact of that journey echoes in the lives and hearts of countless people today. Noah always had time to help anyone. Numerous people can attest to his generosity in giving his time to mentor. His faith and commitment to the Lord was no secret to those who knew him.
Noah was preceded in death by his brother, Mark Love and his devoted wife, Mattie. He leaves to cherish his memory, his daughter and son, Alandra and Wendell; sisters and brothers: Dorothy Brundidge of Montgomery, AL, Sylvia E. Profit, James C. (Irease) Love of Niagara Falls, NY; and a whole host of nieces, nephews and friends.
A Graveside Service will be held Friday, February 5, 2021 at 2:00pm at Greenhaven Memorial Gardens, 11020 Two Notch Road, Elgin, SC 29045. Viewing times are Thursday, February 4, 2021 from 3:00-5:00pm and Friday, February 5, 2021 from 9:00am-12:00pm.
