Ruby E. Ross Obituary
Ruby Elizabeth Ross, 80, of Elgin, South Carolina, passed away peacefully at home on January 23, 2026. Born in Lynchburg, South Carolina, Ruby was the daughter of the late William Nesbitt and Bessie Brown Nesbitt. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Rembert Ross; her parents; her brothers, William “Buddy” Nesbitt, Jr. and Allen Nesbitt; and her sisters, Mary Varnadore and Sarah Sturgeon.
Ruby is survived by her devoted daughter, Becky Ross Hostetter (Dan); her cherished grandchildren, Jake Hostetter (Tina), Brandon Hostetter, and Hunter Hostetter (Chloe); her adored great-grandchildren, Evelyn Hostetter and Riley Hostetter, both four months old, who brought her immense joy in her later years; and a sister, Lil Chavis.
Ruby worked for many years as a secretary and assistant office manager, where she was known for her dedication, organization, and strong work ethic. Above all, she was most proud of her role as a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Until her health declined, Ruby enjoyed shopping, traveling to the mountains, and spending time with family and friends. She was loving, tender-hearted, and deeply caring, always meaning the best for those around her. While she was opinionated and never shy about speaking her mind, her heart for others guided everything she did. She helped many people in need throughout her life, doing so quietly and without ever seeking recognition.
Her faith was central to her life. Ruby loved God and her church and was a faithful member of Lugoff Christian Ministries, where she served in numerous roles including Women’s Ministries President, Sunday School Teacher, Vacation Bible School Director, and Elder. Her service and compassion left a lasting mark on her church family and all who knew her.
A service to celebrate Ruby's life will be held on Friday, January 30, 2026 at 3:00 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home, Lugoff, with burial to follow in Greenhaven Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Ruby will be remembered for her unwavering faith, her generous heart, and her deep love for her family. She will be profoundly missed.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Agape Hospice nurse Laura for her exceptional care and compassion; to devoted caregiver Ms. Betty for her kindness and dedication; to her niece Connie, who lovingly served not only as her caregiver for many years but also as her chauffeur and daily companion; and to her sister-in-law Betty for the meals she lovingly provided, her frequent visits, and her constant love and support.
