Obituary for Ms. Rosa Ines Alicea
Rosa Ines Alicea, 75, of Columbia, died on Friday, January 30, 2026. Born on April 20, 1950, in Salinas, Puerto Rico, she is the daughter of Jose R. Alicea-Aguayo and the late Ana Rosa Orozco Alicea. In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her sister, Rosita Alicea.
Prior to her retirement, Ms. Alicea was a dedicated employee of AgFirst Farm Credit Bank for more than 40 years. She had a caring heart and would routinely assist single mothers in her community. Ms. Alicea also opened her home to many displaced friends as they searched for permanent residences. She enjoyed being outdoors and was an avid sports fan. Ms. Alicea was volunteer with Habitat for Humanity, coached youth basketball, and aided Hurricane Maria relief for Puerto Rico.
Surviving in addition to her father of Blythewood are her siblings, Ana Alicea Amerson (Mike) of Blythewood and Jose R. Alicea, Jr. (Ana “Awilda”) of Elgin; her nieces and nephews, Daniel, Michael, Michelle, Jose, III, Robbie, Melanie, Veronica, and all their families. She also leaves behind her fur babies, Sunny, Chris, and Buggy.
Although Ms. Alicea never had children of her own, she was a foster mother to 18 children. It is with great gratitude we mention Camille Washington, she was more than a foster child to Rosa. Camille remained close until the very end and she and her children were family to Ms. Alicea.
The family will receive friends beginning at 10 o’clock on Saturday, February 7th, at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., Columbia, SC. The funeral service for Ms. Alicea will begin at 11 o’clock in the funeral home chapel. Burial will immediately follow at Greenhaven Memorial Gardens, 11020 Two Notch Road, Elgin.
