With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Janet Kay Smith. Born on October 11, 1971, in Camden, SC, and departed from us on February 23, 2026 at The Hospice House of Carolina FootHills, Forest City, N.C.. Janet was an extraordinary individual whose vibrant spirit and captivating energy touched the lives of everyone she met.
Janet lived a fulfilling life as a Quality Assurance professional for Home Depot’s Distribution Center. She was an individual who understood the importance of balance in life, and her adventurous spirit was evident in her love for the outdoors. She was an avid traveler, camper, fisher, and boater, always finding peace in the serenity of nature. Much of her leisure time was spent with family and friends, creating memories that will be cherished forever.
She is survived by her loving partner, Stephanie Nettles; siblings, Virginia "Ginny" Belford (John), Joyce O'Cain (Tom) and Billy Joe Smith; nieces and nephews, Justin Thornton (Angie), Matthew Thornton (Fujiko), Lindsey Corbin (Matthew), Zachary O'Cain, Jacob Smith (Cassie), Jessica Janzen (Jeffrey) and Molli Smith; and 13 great nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her loving parents, Billy and Virginia “Louise” Smith.
A funeral service honoring the life of Janet will be held on Sunday, March 1, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home with burial to follow at Greenhaven Memorial Gardens in Elgin, SC. The family will be receiving friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
