Obituary
COLUMBIA - A funeral service for Charlotte Comstock Dean, 89, will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 4, 2025 at Dunbar Funeral Home, Northeast Chapel, with burial in Greenhaven Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon until 1:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
Mrs. Dean died Thursday, February 27, 2025. Born in Union City, PA, on April 15, 1935, she was a daughter of Margaret and Glenn Comstock. She worked on the family farm with her Uncle and with her parents as a taxi driver and bus driver. She married her husband on August 7, 1954 and they had one son, DeWitt Dean Jr., in August 1956. As a family, they lived in Ohio, Indiana, and Virginia before moving to Columbia, SC.
Charlotte loved to crochet and won several awards at the South Carolina State fair for her work. With a love for bowling, she was part of a bowling team and loved to take part in competitions with her sister, Joyce. Most of all, she loved to spend time with her grandchildren, hosting family cookouts, and roasting hotdogs in the fire pit. She loved football, especially the Cincinnati Bengals, and watching football with her son. Charlotte also loved a good vanilla milkshake.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, DeWitt Dean Sr.; son, DeWitt Dean Jr.; granddaughter, Carol Marie Dean; brother, Jack Comstock; stepfather, Marshall Shield; aunt, Aida Digerlando; and uncles, Lloyd Reynolds, Pete Comstock, Wilber Comstock, and Harley Comstock.
Surviving are her sister, Joyce Jones, brother-in-law, Timothy Jones, and niece, Stefanie Jones, all of Apex, NC; daughter-in-law, Freida Dean and grandchildren, Angel Dean, David Dean, Brandon Nettles, all of Columbia, SC; sister-in-law, Christy Rich of Charlotte, NC; and cousins, Marilyn Maynard of Union City, PA, Janet Barnes of GA, Cheryl Reynolds of Union City, PA, Dick Comstock of Union City, PA, Skip Comstock of Titusville, PA, and Dennis and Ralph Comstock of Stewart, FL.
